About Our Associate Pastor
Rev. Yvette S. Vanterpool is blessed to serve as Associate Pastor at Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY and first came to Devoe in 2010 as the guest preacher for Mother’s Day. Known for her high energy and exuberant spirit, she embodies the call to serve the Lord with gladness.
From 2014 to 2018, she was privileged to serve as Associate Minister under the leadership of Interim Pastor, Rev. Dr. Mariah A. Britton, one of her mentors, and was ordained at Devoe by ABCMNY in 2016.
Under her leadership the Mission and Outreach ministry has addressed urgent issues such as food insecurity, girls and women who have been victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking, gun violence prevention and voter registration and engagement. The Outreach ministry has spearheaded several churchwide drives that have resulted in events and donations to multiple community organizations including, Open Door Food Pantry, Put Down the Guns, St. Vincent’s Services and Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS).
Rev. Vanterpool also serves as Director of Christian Education, and during the pandemic by converting to a virtual platform, Sunday School participation has more than doubled and attracts members and visitors alike. Since 2019, she has led an Ash Wednesday Bible Study and Worship Service designed to strengthen congregational understanding of the Lenten journey and the church has read and studied the gospels of Mark, John and Matthew as an annual Lenten Challenge since 2020. Currently the church is highly engaged reading the Bible together using The Story by Randy Frazee as a basis for their study. Rev. Vanterpool believes the Bible is meant to be explored and studied with the goal of discovering who God is and enriching one’s faith walk by learning to see ourselves in the ongoing narrative of God’s righteous activity in the human story that culminates in the ministry, resurrection and redemptive love of Jesus Christ.
She is currently a member of a clergy cohort with The Generosity Project, an initiative of ABCUSA designed to explore innovative ways to teach and preach about generosity. Rev. Vanterpool has a passion for prayer and the power of prayer to change people and situations, teaching, preaching, worship liturgy, and designing worship
